Learning Dubstep Production - Sound Samples

I've been posting links on Facebook every time I make progress on a track, even if it's just a small adjustment to a short clip. But then they tend to get lost... Facebook is great for sharing but not for archiving. That's what this is for - I'll still be posting them as usual, and then putting the links together here to organize them once they are buried by pictures of animals and food. Here was my very first attempt at anything remotely dubstep-ish, posted on 5/17/13: http://picosong.com/FJMf/ This was just over month after I got Logic Pro, and met Amy who formally introduced me to dubstep. Then about a month later (6/14) I made this: http://picosong.com/FMLL/ That's when I met Jacob and he showed me how to use MASSIVE. The bassline is layered with that, and the previous one I had using the ES2 synth in Logic. https://soundcloud.com/bobtowers/barbary-allen-chillstep  - 6/17 http://picosong.com/Rs2x/  - Paganini Dubstep (6/18) http://picosong.com/RF...

Huston Smith on Monotheism

Image
Huston Smith writes in The World's Religions on the meaning of God in Judaism:      Where the Jews differed from their neighbors was not in envisioning the Other as personal but in focusing its personalism in a single, supreme, nature-transcending will . . . the basic contribution of Judaism to the religious thought of the Middle East was monotheism . . . [the other gods] are not Yahweh's rivals; they are God's subordinates. (273-4) How is this conception superior to that of the other Mediterranean peoples of the day, for whom "each major power of nature was a distinct deity" (273)? Smith answers:       The significance of this achievement in religious thought lies ultimately in the focus it introduces into life. If God is that to which one gives oneself unreservedly, to have more than one God is to live a life of divided loyalties. If life is to be whole; if one is not to spend one's days darting from one cosmic bureaucrat to another to discover...

Beethoven Piano Sonata #1 (Ridiculously Compressed!)

Image
This music is so epic, but in today's noisy listening environments you simply can't hear it. That's why I made these files. Go ahead and give it a try-- put them on your mp3 player for next time you have to ride the bus... it sounds like you are inside the piano with the lid shut, and every note hammers straight into your skull: 1. Allegro 2. Adagio 3. Menuetto Allegretto 4. Prestissimo
